The Xbox 360 is a popular platform, but it hasn't had a lot of hugely successful franchises exclusively for it like Sony had over the years. Although Halo or Gears of War have generated some big sales, none of them has experienced the following of Konami's Metal Gear Solid saga.

The last iteration, MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots, saw some big sales for the PlayStation 3, with Sony executives emphasizing the fact that such an experience wasn't possible on any other platform due to the space and graphics power limitations.

Now, MGS is no longer exclusive to the PlayStation brand, as, during Microsoft's keynote speech at E3 last week, Hideo Kojima announced Metal Gear Solid: Rising, a game that will arrive on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

But, even though the announcement was made during Microsoft's conference, Sony Head of Marketing Peter Dille is confident that it doesn't mean anything and that PS3 users will be able to enjoy this new chapter in the MGS saga when it will be released worldwide.

“Look forward to playing it on a PS3,” Dille said to Kotaku when he was asked about the possibility of it being a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. Asked if PS3 owners should wait for the game at the same time as Xbox 360 ones, he added that, “Yes, that's correct.”

Dille then went on to discuss the distinction between Sony's press conferences and the ones from other companies, in that they brought third-party developers to the stage when they had something exclusive to that platform. “I think the difference between our approach in our press conference and our competitors' is that our focus is on exclusive content. When a third party comes on our stage, it's because they have something for our audience that is exclusive. And so whether it's the Assassin's Creed demo where Assassin's Creed 2 might be cross platform, what we're doing with the weapon-unlocking functionality between the PS3 and the PSP is a point of difference.”

So, there you have it, MGS fans, the PlayStation 3 will receive it at the same time as other platforms. Hopefully, this new chapter will deliver a great experience, just like the other iterations in the saga.
