The all-in-one approach

All in one desktop systems were very popular some twenty years ago but it looks like the trend is coming back after all this time with Apple's new iMac system and Sony's new VAIO LT19U computer. After Apple made the first step in that direction, Sony thought long and hard and saw a potential unexplored market, so they simply launched the new VAIO LT19U as the PC response to the all in one battle started by the Apple company.

The computer monitor combo features a high price tag of $2899 and it is considered an update over the last year's model as it integrates a Blu-ray burner, a pull-out sled for adding a second hard drive, and a VESA-standard wall mount input. Designed and produced to be a multimedia living room solution, the system also comes equipped with ATI's external Digital Cable Tuner that is better known as CableCard. On the hardware department, the new Sony VAIO LT19U all in one computer system and multimedia appliance is looking good as the whole box is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 central processing unit running at a standard frequency of 2.2GHz. Main system memory comes as 2GB of DDR2, while a 500GB Serial ATA and 7200rom hard disk drive is responsible for storing all your multimedia files.

A discrete graphics solution powered by the Nvidia GeForce 8400 GT graphics chip with 256MB of video memory as well as a built-in ATSC and NTSC TV tuner is responsible for the display department that powers a 22 inch widescreen LCD capable of resolutions reaching up to 1,680x1,050.

The new all in one computer system from Sony also features 3 watt stereo speakers and built in 5 watt subwoofer as well as a built in Web cam with a resolution of 1.3 megapixel. A cheaper version of the VAIO LT19U system, the VAIO LT15E comes with a price tag of $1899 and it features some lower hardware specifications such as a standard definition DVD drive, a slower processor and various other cheaper components. While the powerful Sony VAIO LT19U all in one system should have no problems facing the iMac on the market, the lower end Sony product has no advantage other than its price.
