Last week, owners of Xperia S, Xperia SL, and Xperia acro S devices started to receive a new update on their smartphones, in the form of firmware 6.2.B.1.96, and the full list of changes that the new software brings along has already been published.

The new release is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the platform release that was already present on all three smartphones, and was meant mainly to resolve some of the issues that users had reported on.

In a recent blog post, Sony Mobile notes that they are committed to providing users with a great experience on their devices, and that this is the main reason for which said improvements were pushed out to users.

In addition to the aforementioned bug fixes, the update also comes to devices with a series of stability improvements, as well as with performance enhancements, said blog post explains.

Here’s what the full release notes for the software include:

Camera: - addressed an abnormality in the white balance - improved the “Quick Launch” button functionality - smoothed out (1080p) video recording, minimizing lag

- Apps, services and data: - streamlined Exchange Active Sync, particularly when running an encrypted set-up - boosted connection stability for 2G network data - ensured preferences on 3rd party apps remain after reboot – not a common problem, but we understand it can be a frustrating one!

Battery: - economised power consumption, and heat dispersion for longer life - corrected juice level notifications, especially when running low

Furthermore, the update brings along the option to launch Google Now through long pressing on the home key button. Double pressing on it will launch the Recent Apps, Sony explains.

Additionally, users should enjoy full responsiveness from the volume up button following the installation of the new firmware release on their devices.

All owners of Xperia S, Xperia SL, and Xperia acro S handsets out there should receive the new maintenance update, through it remains to be seen how long it will take for the software to reach all of them, given that the deployment timeframe will vary according to market and carrier.
