High expectations

Killzone 2 is one of the most expected PlayStation 3 exclusives that will be launched at the beginning of this year. The shooter promises to bring back the same non-stop action that made the first Killzone and its PlayStation Portable version, Killzone: Liberation, bestsellers.

With this next-generation iteration of Killzone, the developers at Guerrilla Games and the publishers at Sony hope to achieve massive sales and to give the much needed boost in sales to the PlayStation 3 console. Although it is slated for a release on February 6 in Europe and February 27 in North America, a demo might soon appear in both territories, but it will be launched under various conditions.

Now, it seems that a Sony employee who wished to remain unnamed has stated that the whole team at the game publisher has extremely high expectations for Killzone 2, and expects to sell as much or even more than last year's very popular PlayStation 3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4. He reveals that the company invested quite a lot of money and marketing power in this game and that it expects it to make a pretty hefty profit.

“It would be a lie to say Sony has not invested heavily in Killzone 2 and each individual at Guerilla games has worked even harder to satisfy any expectations kept by the company and their loyal community. I do see the game breaking a barrier with a huge variety of groups and expect it to see sales as good as Metal Gear Solid 4 if not beyond it.”

Metal Gear Solid 4 sold extremely well in both Europe and North America but didn't really confirm in Japan, although it was made by one of the country's biggest gaming icons, Hideo Kojima. It went on to sell a million copies in its first week and, according to statistics made in November, sold 4,3 million units worldwide.

Although there are a lot of Killzone fans out there, Sony has set a pretty high benchmark for it in terms of sales. All that's left for us to do is tally up the numbers after the game is launched.
