Leading mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is reportedly getting ready to bring to the market a new device, one that would most probably set a new standard when it comes to mobile gaming, the long rumored PlayStation Phone, and it appears that the release day for this device is getting increasingly nearer.

Moreover, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest that we might see the new device being released no later than December 9th, during an event for which Sony Ericsson already sent out invites out there.

According to French gadget enthusiast blog Nowhereelse, the invitation they received from Sony Ericsson states that the unveiling the company plans for that day would be “the most awaited event of the past 10 years.”

Basically, this would suggest that the highly expected Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone might be on its way to be officially introduced on that day, thought this does not confirm when the handset would actually land on shelves.

However, the invitation does not mention a PS Phone anywhere, but one can see the standard PlayStation icons there, along with a matching phone icon, adding more fuel to the fire.

We already had the chance to learn some info on the handset, as both leaked specs and photos with it made it into the wild before.

Nothing was confirmed on the matter for the time being, but there are great chances that the images we've seen before would be legit. The December 9th announcement might fit the bill too, though we;ll take it all with a grain of salt for the time being.

In all fairness, the emergence of a PlayStation Phone won't be a surprising move from Sony Ericsson at the moment, that's for sure, especially since other companies already made some steps in offering rival solutions.

We're referring here to the Xbox LIVE features that Microsoft packed with the recently released Windows Phone 7 operating system, offering users a new approach to gaming on mobile phones.
