Japanese Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is reportedly gearing up for the release of two new handsets on the market in Australia, namely the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro.

Both handsets were launched several weeks ago, with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, and with a new Facebook inside Xperia feature.

Both these devices come with small form factors, the same as the Xperia X10 mini handsets did when released last year.

For the time being, no specific info on launch date for these devices on the market in Australia has emerged, but they were both spotted on Sony Ericsson's Australian website with a 'coming soon' tag attached to them.

No details on the carriers that might have the two smartphones on their airwaves emerged either, nor on the price tag they might sport.

The main difference between the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro is the fact that the latter comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard.

The rest of the specifications are almost identical, with a 1GHz application processor packed inside each of the two.

They also sport 3-inch touch screens, namely Reality Displays with the Mobile BRAVIA Engine, for delivering sharp and crisp images.

Their specs list also includes 512MB of RAM, up to 320MB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, and 5-megapixel cameras on the back for HD video recording.

Moreover, the two come with the aforementioned Facebook inside Xperia feature, which keeps them connected at all time with friends and family over the social networking site.

“Your Facebook albums pop up in your phone’s gallery. Comment directly on the pictures. Share recommendations and likes from the music player,” Sony Ericsson notes.

“Don't miss any of your friends' birthdays or other exciting Facebook events – they are all automatically visible in your calendar. Facebook inside Xperia is developed in close cooperation with Facebook to make your entertainment truly social.”

All that users will need to do is to sign in once to Facebook during start-up of their new Xperia mini or Xperia mini pro handset, and they are good to go.
