Japanese Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to come to the market in the near future with another Android-based smartphone in its Xperia family of devices, namely the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo.

Apparently, this handset would be the same Sony Ericsson MT15i (also known as Vivaz 2) handset that emerged not too long ago into the wild.

The mobile phone has already been reviewed, although nothing was announced officially on it, and is expected to be unveiled in the near future with Google's Android operating system on board.

As Xperia Neo, the upcoming device should join hands with the Xperia arc and the Xperia Play in Sony Ericsson's new lineup for 2011.

While official confirmation on this phone still has to emerge, rumor has it that the leading handset vendor would plan on making it official at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in less than two weeks.

Among the hardware specifications that emerged previously on this device, we can count a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7630 applications processor with Adreno 205 graphics, along with 512MB of RAM, which means that it would be able to compete against some of the most popular smartphones on shelves today.

Among the other specs of this device, we can count a display capable of delivering the same resolution as the Reality Display on Xperia arc does, namely 854 x 480 pixels, as well as the inclusion of Android 2.3 Gingerbread with it.

Of course, the handset would also come with Sony Ericsson's own user interface on top of that Android operating system, though with a series of modifications, it seems.

All in all, the new mobile phone should rise above many others, but it might be marketed only as a mid level device, previous reports on it suggested. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson would indeed bring the Xperia Neo to the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and we'll have the opportunity to learn more on it at that time.

Softpedia will be present on the floor at MWC 2011 in Barcelona to deliver details on the latest announcements and unveilings, so stay tuned to learn the news.
