RUMOURS ABOUT MOBILE PHONES

Sony Ericsson Z660i - Ghost in a Shell

- "Pika-boo... Where are you?"

By: Andreea Dihel, Mobile Editor

It's not like Sony Ericsson hasn't had any slim clamshell phones until now. And it's not like they haven't looked good or functioned properly... But it is
the first time that Sony Ericsson would launch a clamshell, on the market, that would probably have under 15 mm thickness.

Of course, for the time being, these are only rumors and nothing is sure, but I should start now with the A and finish with the Z. It all began when a web site, dedicated to the "almighty" Sony Ericsson fans, "licked" an information about a so called Z660i. With it, there came out a few photos about the model. The rumor got bigger, when the people from Esato started to leak more informations about it, like it was supposed to be a sure thing.

Well, of course, this rumor passed pretty quickly, until recently, when it respawned. This time, it went around with better photos, but unfortunately with the same information. The new Sony Ericsson model (which goes in certain circles under the codename "Becky") will feature a 3G connectivity, a 2 MP Camera, it will be just 14 mm thick and its shell will be as hard as metal. The handset will be based on a A200 platform and features UMTS.

Many could wonder why these rumors are so important. Well, since Sony Ericsson appeared in October 2001, being formed of the Sony Corporation and the Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson, their mission was to populate the market place with the most attractive and innovative brand in the mobile handset industry.

The new model promises to be very slick and efficient, no wonder why the company has so many fans. But then again, nothing is sure. The rumors about the Z660i have reappeared late this year, so I wouldn't bet on a 2007 Christmas release. Still, I'm sure that the rumors won't stop here, and there will be more to hear and plenty to see next year about this project, and luckily we'll have it out by then...
