Sony Ericsson unveiled its Z555 handset at the beginning of 2008, during this year's edition of CES, with the mention that the phone should hit the market in a few months. The time for its release has now come, and if everything goes well, we will get to see Z555 on the market starting the first week of April.

The new Sony Ericsson comes as one of the best looking entry-level mobile phones, with a clamshell form factor and a cool pattern on the front case. The handset will have two versions, only differing in the GSM frequencies used: Z555a, for the US, and Z555i for the rest of the world.

Z555 measures 95 x 49 x 16.5 millimeters (when closed), weighs 95 grams and packs a series of basic features, including a 1.3 Megapixel camera, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Music player, FM radio, WAP 2.0/xHTM browser, RSS reader, email capabilities, Instant Messaging, Java MIDP 2.0 and external memory card support. The clamshell's battery is capable of providing more than 8 hours of talk-time and up to 36 hours of stand-by time.

Z555 has an external OLED screen that automatically "disappears" when the phone is not being used, and a 1.9 inch internal TFT display (256K colors and 176 x 220 pixels), which is kind of small. However, Z555 is a clamshell after all, and clamshells usually don't get to have too generous screens.

Another feature of Z555 that is worth mentioning is the Gesture Control, which allows users to put the phone on silent with a simple hand waving.

Sony Ericsson Z555 will be available in two colors: Diamond Black and Dusted Rose, the latter obviously targeted at all the women and girls out there. There are no details regarding the handset's retail price, but it will surely not be a high one.
