The latest Android-based device announced by Sony Ericsson, the Xperia ray has just made its appearance at the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).

Although the phone has yet to receive the regulator's approval, it looks like the Xperia ray is set to hit shelves in United States in August.

However, it appears that the phone lacks AWS support, which means that we won't be seeing this one going live at T-Mobile USA.

It appears that the documents filed by Sony Ericsson confirm that the Xperia ray supports AT&T's HSPA network, as well as other global carriers.

Unveiled last month during the CommunicAsia 2011, Sony Ericsson Xperia ray is a sleek and elegant smartphone with stylish aluminum frame.

Based on the company's Bravia Mobile Engine, the unusual 3.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive multi-touch screen supports 16 million colors, 480 x 854 pixels resolution, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The smartphone is equipped with a single core Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU (graphics processing unit).

Xperia ray is delivered with the latest Google mobile platform, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, out-of-the-box and Timescape UI on top.

In addition, the handset boasts an 8.1-megapixel camera with Exmor R technology for mobile and HD video functionality.

Furthermore, the phone incorporates a secondary front facing camera for video chats, as well as a scratch resistant screen with excellent resolution and brightness and integrated touch keys.

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray offers users a seamless social network experience through integration of various services, including Facebook and Twitter.

The phone's 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 430 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.

According to Sony Ericsson, the Xperia ray will be available globally in selected markets, including Japan, from Q3 2011, which means that the device is on track for an August release in the United States.
