Sony Ericsson Xperia ray Now Available at Vodafone Australia

Australian mobile phone users have now the possibility to enjoy a new Android smartphone on the airwaves of Vodafone, namely the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray.

One of the latest Sony Ericsson handsets to arrive on shelves at Vodafone Australia, the Xperia ray is now up for sale at the wireless carrier for $5 (around 3.5 Euros) per month on the company's $45 (about 32 Euros) Infinite Plan.

The new device comes as a smaller flavor of the Xperia arc device that went official in early 2011, yet packs features and capabilities that bring it in line with that device.

“You'll love the way it looks, feels and performs. Best of all, the 8.1 megapixel camera and unique Facebook inside Xperia integration, make it the ultimate social networker with so much more to share,” the wireless carrier notes on its website,

“You can snap off great shots even in poor light thanks to your new Xperia ray's advanced low light feature, then share them in seconds. Absolutely brilliant for clubs and pubs.”

The specifications list for Xperia ray includes not only the 8.1 megapixel camera with Exmor-R mentioned above, but also a 3.3-inch scratch resistant mineral glass screen (a Reality Display with Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine), and a 1GHz application processor packed inside.

The new device also offers support for 850 / 2100MHz 3G connectivity, along with 512MB of RAM, Adreno 205 GPU to complement the Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, and Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and Micro-USB.

The phone is based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and features various applications and capabilities that are specific to the latest Xperia devices from Sony Ericsson.

“With Facebook inside Xperia you can share and share to your heart's content, using all the apps on your great new Xperia ray. Just for starters, you can 'like' a music track from the music player, tag all your friends in the Photos app or check out their status updates right on your home screen,” the carrier explains.
