Sony Ericsson has just added another Android smartphone to its Xperia line-up, the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc. The device is a curve-styled smartphone with a very thin profile featuring Sony's latest technology.

The manufacturer stated that Xperia arc is the first of a new generation of Xperia smartphones to be announced in 2011, so we should expect more top tier devices in the same line from the Japanese-Swedish joint venture.

Bert Nordberg, president, Sony Ericsson said, “We’re starting strong in 2011 by introducing our most exciting Xperia product yet. Xperia arc combines state-of-the-art Sony technology with breathtaking design to entertain and wow consumers. All on the latest Android release.”

Xperia arc takes the thickness idea to a whole new level, as it measures only 8.7mm even though it features a large 4.2-inch display.

Furthermore, the extra wide Reality Display touchscreen has been created using Sony's Mobile BRAVIA Engine for the ultimate multimedia experience. It features shatter proof sheet on scratch-resistant mineral glass, 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

The smartphone boasts an 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, as well as video recording capabilities (720p@30fps).

The camera has been further enhanced with Sony’s award-winning Exmor R for mobile sensor with the f/2.4 lens, which enables users to capture high quality pictures and HD videos even in low light environment.

Xperia arc is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor and runs on the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform out-of-the-box.

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA and HSUPA technology, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity, DLNA function, GPS with A-GPS support, Digital compass, HDMI port, 512 MB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included), 3.5 mm audio jack and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is expected to be available in Midnight Blue and Misty Silver color schemes in Q1 2011. No information about the price has been disclosed yet.
