Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced officially at the Consumer Electronics Show in las Vegas the upcoming availability of a new Android-based smartphone in its Xperia family, namely the Xperia arc, and some more info on the possible release date and pricing of the device started to emerge.

Apparently, the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is expected to arrive on shelves in the UK as soon as the second quarter of the ongoing year kicks off.

Online retailer Play.com lists the handset with an April 1st release date attached to it, and with a price tag of £459.99, contract free.

The smartphone is listed as already available for pre-order, and those interested in the purchase of this hot Android-based mobile phone should head over to Play.com here to learn more on the matter.

The release date for this device was not confirmed as of yet, and we'll take it with a grain of salt. The price tag for the smartphone is not officially confirmed either.

However, one thing that is certain is that the new handset from Sony Ericsson has all the necessary attributes to become one of the most popular smartphones on the market in the near future.

It comes with an incredibly slim body, with a curved back, a 4.2-inch Reality Display, and an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 720pHD video capture support, complemented by Google's new Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, and sports a 1500 mAh battery inside, a HDMI-out port, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, and usual specs as WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and the like.

We already had the chance to take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc in a series of videos that emerged with the device not too long ago, while the handset vendor itself delivered a video presentation of the phone's camera features.
