Japanese – Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson seems to be preparing to release the successor of the Xperia X1 into the wild, which should also come to the market running under the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, while being codenamed Vulcan. The new Xperia X2 comes dressed up in black, looks rather nice, has been recently caught on camera, and now has its specs leaked into the wild.

According to the leaked specifications of the device, it should come to the market boasting a 3.5-inch WVGA OLED display, which is a little larger than the 3.0-inch one included in the Xperia X1, as well as an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper that should include auto focus and video-recording capabilities (VGA @ 30fps – MP4 HQ).

The specification list for the Xperia X2 has surfaced on the Web via a post over at the Mobile-review forums, and also shows GPS, aGPS capabilities, an accelerometer and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. In addition, it seems that the phone will also include a faster processor than its predecessor, while also packing up inside 512MB of RAM.

According to the specs, the XPERIA Panels, which most of you should already be familiar with, will include a wide range of innovative features, such as the PS3 remote play. In addition, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is expected to run under a modified version of Windows Mobile 6.5, which should perform much faster when compared with other devices, or even with other platforms, it seems.

The last thing that should be mentioned is that the handset is reported to be eligible for an upgrade to the Windows Mobile 7 operating system, and that the XPERIA Panels will also support the upgrade. Given the experience we have with Sony Ericsson and the first Xperia device, the release date is not expected to come anytime soon (some say not before 2011), so we might see the device launched on the market with Windows Mobile 7 right from the start.
