Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson unveiled to the world its Windows Mobile-based Xperia X2 several months ago, yet it started to deliver the device to the market only at the beginning of the ongoing year, as many of you might already know. After having the smartphone dropped from Vodafone UK's plans for 2010, it seems that the handset vendor did manage to have it available for purchase via the wireless carrier in another European country, Spain.

According to a recent post on tradingmarkets, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is expected to become available for purchase on the Spanish market via Vodafone as soon as Monday, February 8, is here, and it should be a Vodafone exclusive for a period of three months. It's a common fact that Sony Ericsson has had some issues with the handset and its Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, which resulted in the long delay of the actual market launch, yet it seems that things might have finally been put in order.

The smartphone will be exclusively available in the Vodafone network during the first three months following launch, El Economista reports, citing Magnus Ahlqvist, general director of Sony Ericsson Iberia. The X2 runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 and comes with a 3.2-inch touch screen and qwerty keypad. It also features a 8.1 megapixel camera, A-GPS, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and Office Mobile, Wi-Fi and HSPA connectivity, up to 16GB memory and a range of multimedia apps such as YouTube and 3D games. The Xperia X2 has a recommended price of EUR 700 without contract. Vodafone will also sell the smartphone in combination with an 18-month data plan subscription,” the news site reports.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system on board of Xperia X2 might actually be that WinMo 6.5.1 Sony Ericsson mentioned not too long ago, when announcing the update schedule for the mobile phone. Those who stumbled upon the report should already know that Xperia X2 is set to receive the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 platform sometime in May, and that it won't support the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 OS, as the company already announced.
