Mobile phone carrier Orange UK has announced today that it has inked an exclusive deal for the distribution of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in the country. The gadget is the first released from the Japanese-Swedish handset vendor with the Google Android operating system on board, and is set to become available from Orange in black and in white come April, the carrier has unveiled.

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be available for purchase for the operator's users via all Orange retail channels, and will be offered for free on select monthly plans, Orange notes. The device will offer 3G+ connectivity options, and users will also be able to enjoy Sony Ericsson’s fresh User Experience (UX) interface, which includes the Timescape and Mediascape applications.

The two software solutions enable mobile phone owners to easily manage content on their handsets: - Timescape manages all your communication with one person in one place. Browse through your conversations the bright way to check out your Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails, and texts all in one go - Mediascape is the smart way to get all the music, photos and videos you want from your favorite friends and artists.

In addition, the two solutions come with a series of intelligent capabilities, through which they can recognize connections between contacts, content and media. When pressing the new “infinite button,” users will be guided through the connected world, and they can view all interactions of a person in a single view. Moreover, the device comes with face recognition features that can recognize up to five faces in any picture, and then connect them with the phonebook.

The specifications list of the new Android-based Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 also includes a 4-inch touchscreen display that boasts a WVGA resolution, as well as an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and video recording, built-in A-GPS receiver, and 1GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot (an 8GB card included in the package), not to mention the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for fast operations.

Francois Mahieu, Director of Devices, Orange UK, commented, “We’re really pleased to be working with Sony Ericsson to help bring their first Android device to UK customers. The exclusive white Xperia X10 allows users to make the most from their social relationships, whether over a call or online and is a great addition to our ever expanding range of Android devices.”
