Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers Wireless officially announced today that it would add a new appealing device to its offering in the second quarter of the ongoing year, namely the Android-powered Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. According to the company, it will be the first North American operator to launch the handset to its users, and will have it exclusively in Canada.

“At Rogers, we have built our legacy on innovation, bringing the most exciting and exclusive handsets first to customers in Canada,” said John Boynton, executive vice president, Marketing, Rogers Communications. “We are thrilled to be the exclusive Canadian carrier to offer this phenomenal mobile entertainment device.”

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, as many of you might already know, comes to the market with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor and with a large touchscreen display, as well as with a high-quality 8MP photo snapper, while also including a great deal of new applications from its maker, including the Sony Ericsson Mediascape and Timescape.

The former is an app aimed at offering an easy solution for managing conversations on the device, while the latter comes as a great solution for getting all the music, photos and videos you want from favorite artists. Mediascape can access content from the phone or websites like YouTube and Facebook, delivering a new level of accessibility options.

“Building on our entertainment heritage, the Xperia X10 underpins our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximizes choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible entertainment experience,” said Andrea Gaal, general manager, Sony Ericsson Canada. “This handset makes communications more fun and more playful while multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect.”

Moreover, the Xperia X10 is said to be capable of delivering a great Sony Ericsson experience to its owners, mainly due to the UX platform that its maker has thrown over the Google Android operating system. No details on the pricing of the device have been unveiled for the time being, but they will become available at launch, the carrier noted.
