It seems that Windows Mobile fans from Canada will soon be able to enjoy a new device that should become available for purchase in the country running under Microsoft's operating system, namely the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. According to the latest news around, Rogers is finally making a move into shipping the handset to retail outlets across Canada, which means that it shouldn't be too long before the phone becomes available for purchase.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is already a widely known handset, given the fact that it was introduced on the market in February last year, and Rogers seems to be a little late to the party with its release. Moreover, the price tag of the phone has been set at $249.99 on a 3-year contract agreement with the carrier, with a voice and data plan of $45 or more, which doesn't make it the most attractive device on the Canadian market.

At the same time, we should also note that other Windows Mobile-powered handsets have recently surfaced to the market, such as the HTC Touch Pro2, which features the 6.5 iteration of the platform, and they look much more appealing than a sixteen-month-old phone. In addition, the successor of the handset, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, also running WM 6.5, is expected to soon pop up on the shelves, and it looks like a better option as well.

For what it's worth, it still remains to be seen when the X2 will be officially introduced on the market, for it has been rumored to be unveiled this week at ComunicAsia 2009 in Singapore, yet its maker hasn't made the move just yet. Until the second Xperia phone makes it into the wild, enthusiasts will have to go with the X1. Hopefully, Rogers won't be too late with the release of Xperia X1, so stay tuned to learn when it will happen.
