Sony Ericsson joint-venture is history, but the company's handsets will remain on the market for a while, until a new wave of Sony-branded devices will take their place.

Rumor has it that Rogers plans to launch the Xperia arc S, one of the last Sony Ericsson smartphones announced last year in September. As the name suggests this is Xperia arc successor, which was also carried by Rogers.

The guys over at MobileSyrup claim that Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S will make its debut at Rogers sometime next week for as low as $30 with a new three-year agreement or for $475 off-contract.

It's unclear why Rogers is planning to release the Xperia arc S, though it also offers the Xperia arc, as the only difference between the two is the slightly better processor of the former.

The Xperia arc S is powered by a 1.4 GHz single core processor, while the original Xperia arc is equipped with a 1 GHz single core CPU.

According to Sony both smartphones will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime this year, so there's no point in having two, almost similar devices.

Although the Xperia arc S is said to pack 1GB of internal memory, only 320MB are user available, exactly the amount offered by its predecessor, Xperia arc.

In addition, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S embeds 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB memory card included).

Expect this one to come with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread on board, as well as an impressive 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and HD (720p) video recording.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S sports a large 4.2-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen display (480 x 854 pixels resolution), which is based on Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology.

Other highlights of the Xperia arc S include Wi-Fi and HSDPA support, along with Bluetooth, HDMI, built-in GPS and active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.
