Last week, Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced the launch of a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, namely the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8, and a video presentation of the device recently emerged into the wild. Expected to land on the market as a more affordable version of the high-end Xperia X10, the new device brings forth enough features to make it desirable for a wide range of users out there.

The specifications list of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 includes a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display which is scratch resistant and which can deliver a 320 x 480 pixel (HVGA) resolution, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with the possibility to instantly upload photos to Facebook, and 128MB of internal memory, coupled with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space.

At the same time, we should mention that the new handset runs under Google's Android 1.6 (Donut) operating system, though some suggested it might taste Android 2.1 in the near future (at or soon after launch). The handset is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm processor, while packing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, and other more. The new Android-based device from Sony Ericsson measures 99 x 54 x 15 mm and weighs in at 104 g.

As stated above, the new Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is expected to come to the market as the affordable version of Xperia X10, and the video below seems set to prove that. At one point in the video, one can hear clearly that the mobile phone would retail in most markets under 200 Euros, around $250. The handset fits in Sony Ericsson's Android lineup just between the X10 and X10-mini and, since it is aimed mainly at the mass market, it should perform quite well, that's for sure.

Those interested in learning a few more details on the new Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 should take a look at the video below. Specific info on the phone's availability and pricing should emerge soon, so stay tuned for more details on the matter.
