Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson might not be as likely to come to the market with Windows Phone 7 devices in the first half of the next year as originally expected.

Moreover, it appears that the company does not see the mobile operating system as offering it too many opportunities when it comes to delivering competitive handsets on the market.

Sony Ericsson France CEO Pierre Perron reportedly confirmed the company's plans on the matter, according to a recent article published in French newspaper Les Echos. (via wmpoweruser)

“[With] Windows [Phone] 7 we run the risk of standardizing our smartphones” Pierre Perron told the newspaper, “we would be obliged to fight only on design and price, which we want to avoid.”

When announcing the Windows Phone 7 operating system, Microsoft unveiled that it has set specific hardware requirements for the handsets that would run under it.

According to the Redmond-based software giant, the move was aimed at ensuring that users received an unified experience across various mobile phone form factors.

However, it appears that Sony Ericsson see this mainly as a limitation, stating that it won't be able to compete at too many levels with any handsets it might release under the OS.

While he did not say that there won't be Windows Phone 7 devices released on the market, Pierre Perron reportedly said that their near release is not likely.

Previously, the mobile phone maker was said to plan the release of at least two handsets powered by the mobile platform, namely the Xperia X7 and the Xperia X7 mini.

Although it was suggested that these devices might be released on the market sometime during the first half of the next year, it appears that we might actually have to wait a little longer before that would happen.

Hopefully, Sony Ericsson won't cancel completely its plans for the release of a Windows Phone 7 device, and we'll learn in the near future that it officially announced the availability of such a handset.
