Comverse, a leading provider of solutions for value-added services for voice, messaging, and mobile Internet, and Japanese-Swedish joint venture Sony Ericsson have announced today that future mobile phones delivered to the market by the handset vendor will come towards users with a visual voicemail solution from the market leader.

“Because of visual voicemail’s global appeal, it has become a high priority to make the service available on new handsets,” said Chief Marketing Officer John Bunyan at Comverse. “Our strategic cooperation with handset leaders like Sony Ericsson helps ensure that new handsets can offer the most attractive and user-friendly visual voicemail experience to the broadest number of people,” Bunyan added.

Visual voicemail has been growing in popularity a lot lately, one of the main causes for that being the fact that it offers enhanced functionality over the traditional voicemail. All messages are displayed in a list, and users can view various details on the messages, including date, time, length of message, as well as caller number and identity, when available. Moreover, users are also enabled to listen to messages in any order they like, as well as to reply, forward or delete them.

“Visual voicemail’s success comes from providing users a richer array of capabilities and choice. Its value to operators is underscored by solid global take-up figures showing that it can increase voicemail usage and penetration in key segments,” Bunyan also said. Visual voicemail is a solution that has seen a great adoption among carriers around the world, which strive to meet the growing demand for speed and accessibility their users show.

Comverse also says that it has been working closely with various carriers around the globe, as well as with handset vendors and other companies, to offer visual voicemail to their users. Now, the Comverse Visual Voicemail, part of the Comverse HUB Value-Added Services, is set to become available for those who will choose future Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
