Coming at the same time as the new Volkswagen Scirocco

Sony Ericsson and Volkswagen, the famous German car manufacturer, have partnered to bring - for those who love both mobile phones and cars - a Sony Ericsson W890 Scirocco Special Edition. The handset is released to celebrate the launch of the new Volkswagen Scirocco, the 3rd generation one to come from the Wolfsburg-based company, which has been making Scirocco cars since 1974.

The Scirocco Edition of W890 is dressed in white and features a Scirocco logo, Scirocco-related content and a pre-installed Java version of the Mission Scirocco game. Plus, the handset has all the other stuff found in the original version: quad-band GSM connectivity as well as HSDPA, Walkman Player 3.0, SensMe, TrackID, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Web and email capabilities, a 2 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colors, a 3.15 Megapixel camera with video, front-facing camera for video calls and expandable memory - all in a case that weighs a mere 78 grams and measures only 104 x 46.5 x 10 millimeters.

The W890 is not to be mistaken for the W980 model, another good-featured Walkman phone that has not yet hit the market. Anyway, the two handsets are similar only when it comes to their names, as the W890 is a candybar while the W980 is a clamshell.

It's not clear for the moment whether the W890 Scirocco will be sold only as an accessory to the new Volkswagen or if it can also be purchased car-free. What's clear, though, is that the handset will cost you no less than 469 Euros (about $735) - with about $330 more than the price of the original phone.

Sony Ericsson W890 Scirocco will be available in the next few weeks, at the same time "Scirocco the car" is going on sale. Most probably, the white W890 will only be sold in Germany - too bad about the non-German users who might want to buy one.
