W205 is “My First Walkman phone”

Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has announced today the beginning of the launch campaign for its new Walkman phone, the W205. According to the company, the campaign comes from four of its communication agencies and is focused on the idea that the new device is an affordable mobile phone that can be purchased by anyone.

The campaign for the handset has been led by McCann Erickson, and also involved Burson-Marsteller, iris and Mediaedge:cia. Based on the idea that the W205 is “My First Walkman phone,” the campaign drove the agencies to develop the theme ‘My personal music revolution’ that shows how the device's music features can appeal to any user out there.

The new handset comes with enhanced music capabilities, including its Walkman player, FM radio and the TrackID music recognition solution it includes. In addition, it can also offer easy ways of sharing content with friends and family, with personalized contact lists and Bluetooth connectivity for image and video sharing.

“The W205 is for those who love portable music but have never had the Walkman phone experience. As the most affordable Walkman handset to date, more young people can now revolutionise their music experience by taking their music with them everywhere,” commented Carolina Ortiz, global marketing communications manager at Sony Ericsson.

The specification list of the new device includes GSM/GPRS 900/1800MHz connectivity, a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper that also sports Video recording capabilities, Multiple phonebook functionality, as well as the aforementioned music features. In addition, the company also announced a W205a flavor of the phone that would come with support for GSM/GPRS 850/1900MHz.

Other features of the new W205 also include USB mass storage, video viewing, Java support, speakerphone, Opera Web browser, predictive text input, picture messaging (MMS), text messaging (SMS), a wide range of organization tools, as well as 5MB of internal memory coupled with Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot with support for up to 2GB of additional storage space.

The new Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman measures 92.0 x 47.0 x 16.4 mm (3.6 x 1.9 x 0.6 inches) and weighs 96.0 gr (3.4 oz). The device comes dressed in Ambient Black and Creamy White, and its battery can provide up to 9 hours of talk time or up to 425 hours of standby time.
