Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson officially announced today the launch of two new handsets in its GreenHeart series, namely the Sony Ericsson Elm and the Sony Ericsson Hazel. At the same time, the company also officially unveiled the Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree VH700, another green product. According to Sony Ericsson, the launch of the new handsets and of the accessory is meant to offer users a green choice, while delivering the same design and functionality as on other devices.

“The Sony Ericsson Elm and the Sony Ericsson Hazel phones offer consumers a green choice without compromising on features or fun. These mobile phones also give consumers a better voice quality experience, with Noise Shield, Clear Voice and Intelligent Volume Adaptation. Both phones offer an easy-to-use social networking experience featuring the Widget Manager application, which allows users access to their social networking page via the stand-by screen and quickly switch between different social networks,” said Fortune Alexander, Global Marketing director at Sony Ericsson.

The handset vendor also revealed plans to make all of its accessories 100 percent compliant with GreenHeart by 2010. The new products are meant to help reducing the CO2 emissions through including recycled plastics, having e-manuals, being free of hazardous materials and through being compatible with the EP300 GreenHeart low consumption charger. In addition, they come with the Walk Mate eco application, and with a green calculator, and sport minimized packaging, condensed user guide and waterborne paint.

“Building on the established heritage of our parent companies we have worked continuously to maintain our leadership position by committing to reduce our own CO2 emissions by 20 per cent and product life cycle CO2 emissions by 15 per cent by 2015.” said Mats Pellback Scharp, Environmental Director at Sony Ericsson. “The Sony Ericsson Elm phone, Sony Ericsson Hazel phone and the VH700 are a testament of our continued commitment to the environment and are part of the ongoing roll-out of our GreenHeart strategy announced in June 2009,” he added.

Sony Ericsson further noted that the new phones were to be delivered to the market with a GreenHeart personal handsfree. Sony Ericsson Elm and Sony Ericsson Hazel come to the market with support for GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 2100/900. According to the handset vendor, the first of the two devices to reach the market is Elm, expected to land in Q1 2010 in Metal Black and Pearly Rose. As for Hazel, it should be released on shelves in the second quarter of the next year, in Superior Black and Passionate Rouge. The Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree VH700 will come in Black in the beginning, but Silver/White, Pink/White and Red/White versions are to arrive in Q2 2010 too.
