Should come in the near future

Sony Ericsson's CEO Hideki Komiyama stated a while ago that the company would come to the market with an Android-based mobile phone, only that it would need some time to develop it, as it did not want to rush things. However, it seems that said device might come to the market much sooner than we were temped to believe back then.

According to the most recent reports, Peter Ang, VP for marketing, Sony Ericsson (Asia Pacific), has stated that the company is preparing for a near launch of an Android mobile phone, and that the operating system on the device will be the yet unannounced Android 2.0.

Google hasn't stated anything official on the upcoming Android 2.0 firmware for mobile phones, which is codenamed Donut, yet the software solution has been spotted into the wild along with the new user interface that should come with the HTC Hero, and which is called Rosie. For the time being, the only thing that seems to be known about the upcoming iteration of the platform is that it should include a wider range of multimedia features than the previously available versions.

According to Ang, Sony Ericsson does not plan to limit the number of mobile operating systems it will work with in the future, but it will continue to use Symbian and Windows Mobile-based phones, as well as some handsets that will run under Android.

One Sony Ericsson mobile phone that should come to the market with the Symbian OS is the 12.1-megapixel Idou, which has been unveiled back in February during the Mobile World Congress under the Entertainment Unlimited label. In addition, it seems that the company intends to make a new Entertainment Unlimited announcement on May 28, and we might hear then when the Idou will become available on the market, but it's also possible that the maker plans to announce other devices.
