About a month ahead of the 2008 MOBO Awards, which will take place on October 15 at the Wembley Arena (London, UK), Sony Ericsson has unveiled the fact that it intends to release a MOBO Edition of its popular W910i Walkman phone.

Details are scarce for the moment, but we do know that the W910i MOBO should be on sale later this year, only across the UK and only via Carphone Warehouse. Also, the phone will probably come with pre-installed MOBO content – hence a lot of music. The handset's price is not known yet, but it's highly probable that the special phone will cost more than its original version (which is available across Europe for retail prices under 300 Euros).

Sony Ericsson is one of the 2008 MOBO Awards sponsors, which explains why the Swedish-Japanese company will come up with said edition of W910i.

Available on the market since last year, the "simple" Sony Ericsson W910i is a slider that weighs only 86 grams, measures 99 x 50 x 12.5 millimeters and brings lots of mid-end features, including: Walkman Player (version 3.0), TrackID, motion sensor, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, FM radio with RDS, quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, HSDPA 2100 MHz connectivity, a 2.4 inch TFT display with 256K colors and a QVGA resolution, NetFront browser, email and IM, JAVA MIDP 2.0, a 2 MP camera with video recording, 40MB of internal memory and support for Memory Stick Micro cards. The slider is powered by a 930 mAh battery capable of lasting up to 9 hours in talk-time mode or up to 400 hours in stand-by mode.

Established back in 1995, the MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards are held in the UK, year by year, with the goal of recognizing artists who perform music of black origin. The editions from the past years were big successes, being presented by Shaggy & Jamelia (in 2007) and Coolio & Gina Yashere (2005).
