Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to announce a new device as soon as May 28. Although it is known at this point that the event planned for May 28 has something to do with the company's Entertainment Unlimited, there are no exact details on what will be announced, though rumors on the web point towards the unveiling of a new device.

As many of you might already know, Sony Ericsson announced back at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the launch of its Entertainment Unlimited “consumer proposition,” which was meant to be a fusion of communication and entertainment. Along with this announcement, the company also announced that it worked on a 12.1-megapixel cameraphone, known as the Sony Ericsson Idou.

On April 17 this year, the company announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2009, while also reinforcing its commitment to Entertainment Unlimited. It further mentioned that the next EU announcement would take place on May 28, not before reminding us what Entertainment Unlimited was all about and saying a few words on Idou again:

“At Mobile World Congress in February 2009, Sony Ericsson announced a new consumer proposition, called ‘Entertainment Unlimited’ (EU), to build on Sony Ericsson’s leadership in music, imaging, gaming, content services, and applications to deliver unlimited opportunities for consumers. The company also announced the first Entertainment Unlimited phone with the concept name ‘Idou’ to be launched in the second half of 2009. The next EU announcement will take place on 28 May.”

Due to the tight connection between the two concepts, namely EU and Idou, the first idea to come to mind is that the announcement to be made on May 28 should be somehow connected to the 12.1-megapixel behemoth. Given the fact that Idou is expected to be launched only in the second half of the year, we can only assume that the company plans on unveiling more details on the high-end phone, and a possible availability window for it.

On the other hand, Entertainment Unlimited is about more than a high-performance cameraphone, so the announcement might actually concern other handsets that the company plans to release to the market during the ongoing year. Hopefully, the event will include both the Idou and other devices, such as new Walkman phones, or Cyber-shots. According to semcblog, we should see more than one device announced on that day.
