Japanese Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to have its long rumored PlayStation Phone available on the market starting with April next year.

Rumors on the upcoming availability of this device have been spotted around for quite some time now, but nothing was confirmed officially, even if the device already made an appearance into the wild.

According to some of the latest reports on the matter, we should see the handset released on shelves in April next year, while the official unveiling is set to take place earlier than that.

Most probably, the Mobile World Congress would be the place to look out for when it comes to the official launch of this device.

The Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone should arrive on the market with Google's Android operating system on board, and might have been pinned down for an April 1st launch date.

All might remain in the rumor side in the end, but it's worth mentioning that a possible launch in late Q1 – early Q2 was already suggested, and that it would make sense for the device to debut the very first day of the second quarter.

However, since nothing was confirmed officially as of now, we'll take this with a grain of salt. According to a recent article on Pocket-lint, things were already carved in stone

Sony Ericsson is going big on this one,” sources familiar with the matter stated, the news site reports. “But although it will get a Feb launch, it won’t be in shops until April.”

When released, the PlayStation phone should offer a nice range of appealing features, including advanced gaming capabilities.

It would run under the newly released Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, while featuring a sliding gaming pad and the popular PlayStation square, cross, triangle and circle buttons.

The specifications list of this device would include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 application processor, complemented by 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM. The phone's screen should measure around 4 inches.
