Next year, Sony Ericsson is expected to bring to the market some appealing new handsets in the Xperia lineup, and the just leaked Sony Ericsson Pepper is one of them.

The smartphone is expected to land on shelves as the successor of this year’s Xperia neo V, at least this is what the specs list that emerged for it over at XperiaBlog suggest.

The new mobile phone is expected to hit shelves with a 3.7-inch Reality display that can deliver a FWVGA (480 x 854 pixels) resolution.

The great news is that the new handset should rock a 1GHz dual-core chipset, which will make it one of the most powerful handsets in Sony Ericsson’s Xperia family.

On the back, it should sport a 5-megapixel photo snapper with support for 720p HD video recording, similar with what neo V had to offer.

Moreover, the new device is said to include a 1320mAh battery inside, the same as the recently rumored Nozomi and Nypon would.

Moreover, the Sony Ericsson Pepper, should run under Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch, though it should get a taste of the newer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform soon after launch.

This year, Sony Ericsson launched highly appealing Xperia devices, though it did not make official a dual-core handset as of yet.

However, that should change next year, most probably as soon as the Consumer Electronics Show in January, where new Xperia smartphones should make an official appearance.

What is not known at the moment is whether the new devices will continue to wear the Sony Ericsson brand or will be released as Sony devices.

After all, the Japanese company did announce plans to have Sony Ericsson integrated into its business and to remove the Ericsson name from the branding.

Hopefully, there will be more great handsets launched next year, including this Sony Ericsson Pepper, which does not appear to be the next flagship device from the company.
