Sony Ericsson P990 owners can now watch their favorite local TV shows on their mobile phones wherever they are in the world with the new LocationFree application from Sony. The software redirects TV shows from the home television to devices such as the P990, allowing users to watch live TV, playback recorded programs and set up future recordings from the mobile device.

"LocationFree completely removes the constraints of having to be at home to enjoy your favorite programs," said Steve Walker, Vice President Product Marketing, Sony Ericsson. "The P990 with its large 2.8 inch touchscreen
is the perfect device for this. It is a high performance smartphone that gives a really great viewing experience, coupled with high-speed connectivity. If you love television and spend a lot of time traveling or generally out and about, then LocationFree on your P990 is a must."

LocationFree uses Sony's LocationFree Base Station and the Internet to redirect content from home to the P990. The Base Station plugs into the existing home network or establishes a wireless link to a broadband Internet-connected device such as a Sony PlayStation Portable system, notebook or desktop PC. When the user is out of the house, he just needs to connect to the Base Station with the P990 to watch TV, access a DVD if it is in the player, or control the set top box or DVD/HDD recorder to make recordings. The user can choose to connect to the Base Station over the Internet or using a wireless connection via Wi-Fi hotspots or 3G network. The Base Station can also be used as a wireless access point, providing the basis of a home wireless network.

"Keeping up with your favourite TV shows is just the start," added Steve Walker. "There are many more uses for LocationFree on your P990 as it will transmit content from any number of devices that are linked up to the Base Station. For example with a video camera or video recorder connected you can use your P990 to see friends and family while you're away, or even keep a check on home security."

LocationFree Player is available on the Memory Stick with the P990 or can be downloaded at www.sonyericsson.com/support/. The LocationFree Base Station is available for purchase in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and UK.
