No details on the upgrade timing and availability yet

Although Sony Ericsson indirectly said that it will upgrade its Xperia lineup of smartphones launched in 2011, the Swedish-Japanese (still) join-venture has just issued an official statement confirming the information.

Last month, Sony Ericsson Nederland went on with the announcement of the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread upgrade for its entire 2011 Xperia lineup, but also mentioned the company's plans to further upgrade the newest Xperia smartphones to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

No additional details have been given on the upgrade timing and availability, but Sony Ericsson's Dutch branch stated that more information will be offered on its official blog in due time.

Well, it looks like Sony Ericsson decided to came forward with an official statement and answer all the questions regarding its plans to deploy the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

According to Sony Ericsson, all its 2011 Xperia portfolio will receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime in the future.

Even though the handset maker did not disclose any details regarding the release dates of the upgrade, the company confirmed that the following smartphone will be updated with Android 4.0: Xperia arc and arc S, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo and neo V, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, Xperia ray and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

The company also stated that the more information on the availability and timeline of the Ice Cream Sandwich will be available in due time via its official blog.

There have been a few questions here on the blog and in our support forums regarding our upgrade plans beyond Gingerbread. We can today confirm that we plan to upgrade the entire 2011 Xperia portfolio to the next version of Android known as Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich.

We are working on merging our current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0. More detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course here on the blog.”
