A PlayStation-branded phone has been rumored to come to the market for quite a while now, years maybe, though there has been no strong proof that such a device might actually be unveiled to the world, not until Sony Ericsson's president Hideki Komiyama stated in a recent interview with Financial Times that such a handset might happen at a certain point in the future.

For what it's worth, in case the Japanese-Swedish joint venture is serious about providing such a handset to the market, it will have great success among users, and the company could go up to the top in no time. “A PlayStation mobile, building on the Walkman and Cybershot phones, could happen,” stated Komiyama, and that might suggest that the phone maker has given it some thought and things might get moving after all.

On the other hand, Sony Ericsson's president doesn't say clearly that such a PlayStation-branded phone would be in the works, so its launch might never happen in the end, though his words will certainly give some hope to those who have been expecting for such a device to emerge.

According to the news on the web, what Sony Ericsson and Sony would have to do to the PSP phone would be to make it compatible with all the games for the PlayStation, while also offering mobile versions of the titles for download. In case the device would also look attractive enough, with touchscreen capabilities and a slim form factor, the success of the idea would then be tremendous.

On the other hand, nothing consistent has been offered this time either, and the PSP phone might remain a rumor after all, though a long-lasting one, we must agree. Hopefully, the mobile phone maker will consider this as an option to return to profitability after some huge losses it has reported during the last few quarters, and a lot of the mobile users around the world will have a great reason to rejoice.
