It seems that we might soon see some TD-SCDMA handsets released by mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson. According to the latest news over the Internet, the company is considering the possibility to launch such devices on the Chinese market in the near future.

Carl-Henric Svanberg, president and CEO of Ericsson, who is also a director at Sony Ericsson, 3G handsets are expected to see an increase in sales on the Chinese market, mainly due to the fact that the country's government has recently granted 3G licenses to several mobile phone carriers in the country. As many of you might already know, SE has been focusing on the development of mid- to high-end handsets, as well as on 3G models.

China Mobile, one of the leading operators in the country, already had some meetings with the Swedish-Japanese handset maker. The two companies have negotiated a possible launch of TD-SCDMA phones in the country, as reported by Chinese-language Commercial Times.

At the same time, Svanberg also stated that China-based T3G Technology, which is already known to have mature TD-SCDMA solutions for handsets, had become affiliated with the phone maker courtesy of a recently completed merger between Ericsson Mobile Platforms and ST-NXP Wireless.

According to some sources at Taiwan handset makers, it would be rather unlikely for Sony Ericsson to use TD-SCDMA solutions from T3G in case the company decides to move into the production of TD-SCDMA handsets.

For what it's worth, Sony Ericsson's move into the Chinese market seems like a logical step to take, mainly due to the fact that LG has managed to push both Motorola and SE back to the fourth and fifth places on the global market. The Chinese mobile phone market is a fast growing one, and 3G handsets are expected to have great potential in the country in the near future.
