Swedish-Japanese joint venture Sony Ericsson has just announced another member of the Xperia family, the neo V.

It appears that this is a software-improved Xperia neo smartphone, as the device comes with the latest version of Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread on board.

However, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V will not be available on the market until Q4 2011, which might prove a big issue for the device.

Not only the phone will be outdated at launch, but its only strong point, Android 2.3.4, will be overrated as Sony Ericsson plans to roll out the update to all Xperia smartphones released in 2011, some time in October.

Xperia neo V features the same design and size as the original and is one of the first to launch with Google Talk with Video Chat, 3D sweep panorama and enhanced Facebook inside Xperia functionality.

On the inside, the phone is equipped with the same single core Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz and complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU.

In addition, it features a 3.7-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen, which is based on the Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine.

Instead of an 8-megapixel camera, the Xperia neo V only embeds a 5-megapixel main camera that boasts the same Sony Exmor R for mobile sensor.

The Xperia neo V packs the same amount of memory, as it comes with 320 MB storage, 512 MB RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Some of the connectivity options offered by Xperia neo V include: HSDPA support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and DLNA function, Wi-Fi hotspot feature, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, as well GPS with A-GPS.

According to the manufacturer, the phone's 1,500 mAh battery should provide up to 7 hours of talk time or up to 400 hours of standby time.

No word on the price, but it should be cheaper than the original Xperia neo.
