Sony Ericsson, a leading mobile phone maker, today announced the launch of a new global competition, called Battle Fingers, which is aimed at the finding of the world’s best dancing digits. Through this contest, “fingerdancers” around the world would have the possibility to test their skills in an online battle which is aimed at deciding who has the best rhythm. The winner will be featured in the new Tha Breakadelics music video, and will be present at the world B-Boy Championships finals in London as a VIP.

According to the mobile phone maker, the competition is expected to be a tight one, especially since the fingers would be inspired by the TV ads Sony Ericsson aired for the XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini pro devices. These advertisements feature “fingerdancing at its best with a fingerdancing diva tapping, twirling and sliding across the easy to use touchscreen user interface” the handset sport. Moreover, these phones can be seen as the dance floor for flighty fingers courtesy of the four customisable corners, which offer fast access to multimedia applications.

“Battle Fingers is a fantastic competition as it gets the public up and dancing and having fun!” said Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President, Head of Marketing, Sony Ericsson. “The XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini pro were designed with the ultimate human interface in mind, from the intuitive touchscreen allowing users to navigate with only one hand, to the ergonomic human curvature design. Fingers can’t help but dance on the phone – and we want to share this feeling across the world”

Aspiring fingerdancers have three weeks at their disposal to head over to http://www.youtube.com/sonyericsson to upload one minute video with their best moves, which would offer them the possibility to win the big prize. Those who would like to participate but have untrained fingers can take advantage of the fingerdance tutorial videos that can be found online to teach themselves new moves so that they can win.

According to the company, “dancers can shimmy to their own tunes or download the unique Tha Breakadelics track – Da Phunk – featured on the XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini pro TV advertisements. Tha Breakadelics are an internationally renowned team of artists and producers (featuring Krisz Kreuzer amongst others) from the Studio BASS in Hamburg. They are the team behind productions such as Brixtonboogie, Pryde, De Phazz, True North and Earl 16.”

As soon as a user uploads a video on the Battle Fingers competition site, he/she can share it with friends to grow the fan base. Since the competition is decided by a dance off, they would certainly need that. The Battle Fingers winner will be decided by public vote on August 2, 2010. voters would have to chose two videos, watch them side by side, and them decide which one appeals the most to them. Creators of the three most voted videos will each win a VIP trip to London to see the Sony Ericsson UK BBoy Championships. The winner of the competition will be decided by a Sony Ericsson judging panel.
