Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to provide its Xperia users with an update to the latest version of the Android operating system for mobile phones sometime in October, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The handset vendor already promised the release of a software update for these devices, but did not offer specific info on when it might arrive on them.

However, Sony Ericsson Italy reportedly shared some more info on the matter, pointing at the fact that all of the latest Xperia devices from the company would receive the Android 2.3.4 update this fall.

That would most probably include the Xperia PLAY and Xperia arc, which are already available for purchase around the world, as well as the announced but unavailable Xperia neo and Xperia pro.

The Japanese-Swedish joint-venture is currently pushing out another software update for these devices, the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update, and is gearing up for the 2.3.4 one as well, just as stated above. Apparently, the company is delivering the software update for Xperia arc users in Europe, though not all users would receive it at the moment.

For example, Xperia arc owners in Italy should taste it only in June. However, Sony Ericsson is reportedly committed to deliver it to all of them.

Following the deployment of this software update, Xperia users would receive the said Android 2.3.4 flavor of the platform, which should bring a nice range of enhancements into the mix.

Among them, we can count video chat in Google Talk, along with support for Google Maps 5.1 with 3D, or Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions.

Reportedly, these details were already confirmed by Sony Ericsson Italy. Xperia devices would also receive the Facebook inside Xperia feature, that the new Xperia mini and mini pro were announced with.

Undoubtedly, the mobile phone maker would unveil more info on the software update as its release date approaches, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
