Today, mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson went official with two new handsets running under Google's Android operating system, the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro, which build on the success of last year's mini series, the X10 mini and X10 mini pro.

The same as other latest devices from the company, the new Xperia mini handsets come with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, and pack fast 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.

The two smartphones offer an appealing design, complemented by great features, including best-in-class imaging and display technology from Sony, such as the Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, or the ability to record videos in HD (720p).

Both mobile phones come 3-inch (320 x 480 pixels) scratch-resistant, multi-touch glass touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, Front-facing camera (VGA), Bluetooth and WiFi, 3.5 mm audio jack, aGPS, microSD memory card slot, and access to various applications trough the Android Market.

They also come with an improved user's interface, with up to 16 apps displayed on the home screen, and with Facebook inside Xperia, a new feature that integrates the social networking site on the phone.

Facebook inside Xperia, available in the new mini phones enables users access the socila networking destination from various areas of the phone, including the picture gallery, music player, phonebook and calendar.

The main difference between the two handsets would be the fact that Xperia mini pro comes with a QWERTY slide-out keyboard, the same as the newly unveiled Xperia pro.

It also sports the subtle but fast Type & Send functionality, and Smart Keyboard with predictive messaging. Moreover, it sports the Office Suite and McAfee antivirus software, so that users can easily managed documents securely.

“We wanted to provide consumers even greater choice across the Xperia range, while building on the success of the original mini series,” Steve Walker, Head of Marketing, Sony Ericsson, commented on the launch.

“These turbo-charged smartphones now contain even more power, enhanced functionality, a larger screen and premium features unique to Sony Ericsson. They are packed full of features, making them a perfect choice for consumers looking for all the benefits of Android and Sony in a beautiful and easy to use compact form factor.”
