Sony Ericsson’s partnership with Billabong has been announced back in October when the handset maker released the Xperia active Billabong Edition in New Zealand.

The smartphone was exclusively available via Telecom New Zealand for prices starting at 330 USD (250 EUR). Today, both companies decided to expand their partnership to other regions as well.

Basically, this means that Sony Ericsson Xperia active Billabong Edition will be introduced in other countries starting this month.

The first to benefit will be the athletes at our major international events who will be testing the Xperia active device in conditions as diverse as the snowfields in Austria, surfing the big waves of Tahiti and even skateboarding in Singapore,” said Scott Wallace, Billabong’s International VP of Strategic Partnerships & New Media.

Especially designed for extreme sports enthusiasts, the Xperia active Billabong Edition is the ideal phone for those who like surfing and/or skateboarding.

In fact, Xperia active is the perfect choice for this collaboration between Billabong and Sony Ericsson, given the smartphone’s ruggedness.

The Xperia active Billabong edition features a tough, scratch-resistant 3.0-inch capacitive touchscreen display and is packed with all sorts of technologies, such as wet finger tracking, as well as dustproof and water resistance via IP67 certification.

Billabong brings a new, enthusiastic and engaging audience who are early technology adopters and influencers in the areas of sports and technology. This partnership is a perfect fit with our brand and the Xperia range of smartphones,” said Stephan Croix, VP head of Global Marketing Creation for Sony Ericsson.

Specs-wise, the Billabong Xperia active has the same features as the original Xperia active. However, this special edition comes pre-loaded with exclusive content such as screensavers, videos and Billabong LIVE app.

In addition, Xperia PLAY owners will be treated with an exclusive surf game, Billabong Surf Trip, which will be available as a free download in the Android Market.
