14 DAY TRIAL // Concept phones are always something that people like dreaming about, that's for sure. Maybe that's because they can hope that those devices would turn into real handsets on their carrier's airwaves someday, or maybe just because they know chances are that such phones would never make it to the market. One concept device that might fall into the first category would be the newly spotted Sony Ericsson FH Mobile Phone that can be admired in some of the photos attached to this article.
“I love covering concept phones that may not have substance to them (tech-backing), but nevertheless are fun to read about. Featured here is a concept Sony Ericsson FH Mobile Phone that has a pivotal point to it. It flips vertical on a pivot to mimic a phone and rotates sideways to become a viewing screen for the media functions and web browsing. The phone even becomes an intercom of sorts when split into two, allowing easy communication between the two parties holding each end. What a high-tech walkie-talkie this would make,” designer Du Jun states.
We couldn't agree more. Such a phone would certainly offer much more functionality than conventional handsets could offer. Of course, this is not be the first time when we see strange form factors for a mobile phone being displayed, but one should agree that it is not the weirdest design out there either. Swiveling devices are already present on shelves, as well as some with reverse-flipping QWERTY keyboards, and more. Not to mention that dual-screen tablets have been spotted a while ago into the wild, so it would make sense to have a dual-screen device too.
However, as much as we'd like the concept, we're still wondering whether it would be possible to have the device pivoting both vertically and horizontally, and whether the two displays would be able offer the required functionality when side by side.
