One month after delivering Android fans living in UAE the Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson decided to introduce another smartphone from the Xperia family, the mini.

The handset will be available starting this week from major electronic stores in the country for a suggested retail price of AED 999 (about $272).

The small and compact Xperia mini follows in the footsteps of its mini pro twin brother when it comes to specs, but it lacks the slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Instead Xperia mini offers a full touch experience via its virtual keypad and Facebook inside Xperia exclusive feature.

With Facebook inside Xperia users will be able to take advantage of a seamless social media integration.

The feature is exclusively available on Xperia phones that run Android 2.3 Gingerbread or higher and is accessible from various areas of the phone, including picture gallery, music player, phonebook and calendar.

Despite the compact size, the Xperia mini offers feature-rich applications that address the needs of today's users. Additionally, Xperia mini comes pre-loaded with Office Suite and McAfee antivirus software, allowing consumers to manage documents and e-mails instantly and securely while on the move,” said Rudiger Odenbach, General Manager, Middle East, Sony Ericsson.

Empowered with a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz and complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU, Xperia mini allows for an excellent Web browsing and multitasking experience.

Although it comes with a small 3.0-inch LED-backlit LCD, capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution, it features the company's high-end imaging and mobile display technology Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

On the inside, Xperia mini packs 320 MB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB microSD memory card included).

On related news, the Xperia mini pro was released in the Middle East in the first week of August for AED 1299 (about $354).
