The first 8.1 Megapixel handset from Sony Ericsson, namely the C905 Cyber-shot, has just been officially announced, together with another phone created for users who like mobile photography: the S302.

After several rumors and leaked images, Sony Ericsson C905 is now confirmed and fully unveiled. The highlight of the new handset is, obviously, its 8.1 Megapixel camera, created by Sony Ericsson to be a real competitor to dedicated digital cameras. Aside from the high Megapixel count, the camera also features: Xenon flash, auto focus, image stabilizer, smart contrast, face detection, red eye reduction, geotagging and video recording (with video stabilizer).

Even without the excellent camera, the C905 can be considered a high-end device, as the rest of its features include GPS (as well as A-GPS), Wi-Fi, a 2.4 inch scratch-resistant display with 262K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, stereo Bluetooth with A2DP, Media player, video streaming, FM radio, TV out, advanced Web and email capabilities, 3D games and a 2GB Memory Stick Micro card included in the package.

Besides being Sony Ericsson's first phone to feature an 8.1 Megapixel camera, C905 is also the first slider from the Cyber-shot family. Because of this form factor, the handset measures 104.0 x 49.0 x 18.0 millimeters (4.1 x 1.9 x 0.7 inches) and weighs 136 grams (4.8 ounces).

The other new phone from the Swedish-Japanese company, namely Sony Ericsson S302, cannot be compared with the C905, but it's still a nice addition to the company's lien-up of photo-oriented devices.

The S302 is a thin candybar that only measures 101.0 x 46.0 x 11.0 millimeters (4.0 x 1.8 x 0.4 inches) and weighs 79 grams (2.8 ounces). Among its features we have a 2.0 Megapixel camera with fixed focus, digital zoom and video recording, a 176 x 220 pixel TFT display with 262K colors, Bluetooth with A2DP, Music player, WAP browser, expandable memory, USB and so on.

Talking about the new handsets, Sven Tott?, Head of Imaging Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said: "The C905 Cyber-shot and S302 Snapshot have been developed to make us all better photographers! That means making it easier to take great shots and never missing that magic moment. Although both have photography at their core, the phones are very distinct; the 8.1 megapixel C905 is a viable alternative to a digital camera and the S302 is perfect for those who don't want to miss a moment and like to send or Bluetooth their photos to their friends."

Both C905 and S302 will be commercially available at the beginning of this year's fourth quarter, meaning in October. While S302 only has one version, C905 will have three: C905, featuring quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and HSDPA 2100; C905a, for North America, featuring the same quad-band GSM connectivity, plus tri-band HSDPA (850 / 1900 / 2100 MHz); and C905c, coming only with GSM connectivity. Every one of the above mentioned C905 versions will be available in three colors: Night Black, Copper Gold and Ice Silver.

Sony Ericsson has not announced yet the official retail prices for the two new handsets, but word on the street is that C905 will cost around 500 Euros ($780) while S302 should have a much lower price.
