Sony Ericsson C902 Passes the FCC

- A US release should come soon

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

The newest and unreleased yet high-end Cyber-shot handset from Sony Ericsson, namely the C902, was approved yesterday by FCC, hence it should (at least theoretically) become available in the US in the near future.

Officially presented in February, during MWC 2008, together with the C702 model, Sony Ericsson C902 is among the thinnest 5 Megapixel mobile phones ever created. The candybar's full dimensions are 108 x 49 x 11 millimeters (4.25 x 1.93 x 0.43) and its weight is of 107 grams (3.77 ounces).

The 5 Megapixel camera packed in C902 is one of the most advanced cell phone cameras, featuring image stabilizer, auto focus, flash, face detection and video recording at 30fps (in QVGA mode). The flash "works" automatically, so whenever the lighting conditions are not great, it will be activated without any extra command from the user. Moreover, there are no less than 8 illuminated touch-keys that will help you control the camera quick and easy.

The rest of the features Sony Ericsson C902 comes with include: a 2-inch TFT display with 256K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with both GPRS and EDGE, UMTS 2100 for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, accelerometer, picture blogging, picture editor, Music player, MPEG-4 player, FM radio with RDS, secondary video-call camera, 160MB of internal memory and Memory Stick Micro card support. The battery of C902 is a 930 mAh Li-Ion one that should last up to 9 hours in talk-time mode and up to 400 hours in stand-by mode.

Most probably, the new Cyber-shot phone will be available in both of the colors announced by Sony Ericsson: Swift Black (like the model seen in the FCC image) and Luscious Red. There's no word yet about the retail price of C902, but don't expect it to be affordable for everyone.
