On Tuesday, mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced a series of changes at the executive level, with Tommi Laine-Ylijoki being appointed Corporate Vice President and Head of Operations.

The handset vendor announced that Tommi Laine-Ylijoki comes from Nokia Oyj, where he held the position of Vice President, Materials Management, and that he will be reporting to President and CEO Bert Nordberg.

“Tommi Laine-Ylijoki’s track record in the area of operations and supply chain management in our industry is second to none, and he joins Sony Ericsson at a very important time,” Bert Nordberg, President and CEO, Sony Ericsson, stated referring to the announcement.

“As we shift more and more of our product portfolio to Xperia smartphones based on the Android platform, we continue to look for ways to achieve a cost efficient operational framework on which to build future growth.”

Tommi Laine-Ylijoki arrives at Sony Ericsson with over 17 years of experience in working at Nokia in Finland.

He brings forth experience in the areas of research in microelectronics, and operations capacity management, as well as in direct sourcing and supply chain.

As Vice President, Materials Management at Nokia, he was responsible for all of the operational inbound supply-related activities for the leading mobile phone maker, as he held responsibilities with both the Operations and Sourcing organizations within the company.

Tommi Laine-Ylijoki is native of Finland, and has a Master’s Degree from Helsinki University of Technology. He will be based in Lund, Sweden, Sony Ericsson announced.
