Sony Ericsson announced today a new mobile phone that would be added to its Walkman series of handsets, namely the Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman. The new device comes with a lot of multimedia features meant to enhance user's experience in the area, including a Walkman player, FM radio and TrackID music recognition.

The handset sports a sliding form factor, includes “a complete package of entertainment features,” while also offering users the ability to set up playlists so that they could listen to their favorite music according to the occasion. At the same time, they will also be enabled to share songs with friends via the speaker phone function.

“The W205 is perfect for those who love portable music but have never had the Walkman phone experience.” said Timo Maassmann, marketing business manager at Sony Ericsson. “The W205 is a stylish slider phone allowing you to enjoy your music wherever you are – whether it’s on the bus, at college or chilling in the park. You can also share more than music with the 1.3 megapixel camera. Capture the action in stills or video and send them to friends via MMS or via Bluetooth. The multiple phonebook function is an added bonus - share your phone with your family but keep your contacts separate from theirs.”

The specification list of the new Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman shows that the device includes a 1.3-megapixel camera that sports video recording capabilities, as well as up to 2.2x digital zoom, along with a 1.8-inch TFT display that provides a 128 x 160 pixel resolution and support for 65,536 colors. The device comes with an internal memory of up to 5MB and with support for Memory Stick Micro (M2) of up to 2GB.

Among the other features of the handset we can also count the Opera Mini Web browser, Messaging capabilities such as Picture messaging (MMS), Text messaging (SMS) and Predictive text input, Organizer, Bluetooth connectivity and USB mass storage, as well as a battery that is able to offer up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 425 hours of talk time. When it comes to music playback, the battery can deliver up to 13hrs 30 min of listening time.

The Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman measures 92 x 47 x 16.4 mm and weighs 96 grams. It comes dressed in Ambient Black and offers support for GSM/GPRS/900/1800. A W205a variant will also be released to the market, with support for GSM/GPRS/850/1900 frequencies. The handset is expected to become available for purchase in the third quarter of the ongoing year in select markets.
