Sony is apparently focusing on features that make it money, not on user requests

A seemingly legit Sony employee has confirmed a few of the company's plans regarding media features on the PS4, saying that right now it's possible that MP3 and video players will be added to the console until winter 2014. DLNA support, however, isn't scheduled until 2015.

The PS4 was released last November and immediately quite a lot of existing PS3 owners found that they still had to hold onto their devices, as the new console wasn't able to interact with different types of media such as MP3s or videos. Only recently did the PS4 get support for 3D Blu-ray discs and Sony has promised that more media features are coming.

Now, a verified yet anonymous Sony employee has shed some more light on these plans on Reddit.

It seems that Sony wants to release MP3 and video players by the 2014 holiday season but it's still unclear when exactly that might happen. DLNA streaming support, however, isn't set to appear until 2015, so don't get your hopes too high.

Apparently, Sony has a huge backlog of features it wants to add to the PS4, but right now the focus is on things that produce money and a quick profit.

As of yet, Sony itself hasn't revealed any other plans concerning the media capabilities of the PS4.
