Driveclub is going to deliver a different experience than its rivals

Sony has once again emphasized that a huge technical issue prevented Driveclub from coming out last year, alongside the PS4 console, but now it's quite confident that the title will deliver a different racing experience, as opposed to rivals like Forza Horizon 2, Project Cars, and many others.

The PlayStation 4 console launched last November and arrived onto the market with quite a few launch-day games, including first-party exclusives like Killzone: Shadow Fall. However, a major title was delayed at the last moment, in the form of Driveclub.

The racing title was quite important, especially since a free PS Plus edition with limited content was also set to appear at the same time.

After a lengthy period of silence from publisher Sony and developer Evolution, the companies have confirmed that Driveclub is going to launch for the PS4 this October, almost a year since its original release period.

While talking with Eurogamer, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the main reason behind the huge delay was a technical issue that needed a lot of redesigned features and mechanics.

"We're excited with what DriveClub is now. Last year we were hoping to get it done, but there was a huge technical issue. So the team had to go back and re-engineer some parts of the game. That's the reason it took so long," he explains.

"It's almost a whole year, because the team went back to the drawing board in some of the key aspects of the game."

However, after all this work, Driveclub is finally looking like it will live up to Evolution's vision, meaning fans will have a great time enjoying the racing experience. Yoshida also highlights that, after playing some of the other games in the genre that will appear this fall, from Forza Horizon 2 to Project Cars, or The Crew, he isn't worried, as Driveclub is something special.

"So, now what we have is a game the team has always imagined. I personally checked out other racing games at E3 and personally I was pretty happy. It's a different kind of game compared to the other games you mentioned. I didn't see any direct competition, from my perspective. I don't know. People will tell us when it comes out."

Driveclub is set to debut on October 7 for the PS4 in North America. European gamers will have to wait an extra day, until October 8, while those in the UK are forced to endure an even bigger wait, until October 10, to get their hands on the racing title.
