Yesterday, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has started to deliver the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system for the owners of Sony Xperia SP devices, and the company has finally provided some info on the matter.

Those who will head over to Xperia SP’s official product page will see that Sony has updated it to include info on the said platform release.

The update is being rolled out as firmware version 12.1.A.0.266, and should be available for users in more countries than just Australia, where it landed yesterday.

Said page notes that the deployment of this update has started on February 12, which is today, suggesting that yesterday’s roll out was meant only for testing purposes.

As part of this operating system upgrade, users will enjoy a nice set of enhancements on their devices, including:

- Google Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) - User interface optimization and smoother graphical experience - New Sony user interface with new home screen look and feel - Sony’s Smart Social Camera and downloadable camera apps - Updated Sony Media apps – “WALKMAN”, Album and Movies apps - New version of Battery STAMINA Mode for prolonging battery life.

The update should be available for download both over the air and via the Sony PC Companion application. Users will receive a notification when it reaches their devices.

However, given that new platform releases are usually rolled out in phases, some users might have to wait for a few days before they are able to download and install Android 4.3.

“Software updates are released at different times depending on operator and/or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device,” Sony notes on its website.

In the meantime, however, Xperia SP owners can perform manual checks to see whether the new software has arrived or not, through going to Settings > About phone > Software updates.
