The game can generate sales all the way to Christmas

The launch of Destiny has been one of the biggest events of the year so far for the gaming industry, and it seems that the team at Sony aims to continue to heavily promote the video game while basically treating it as a PlayStation 4 first-party title.

The information comes from Fergal Gara, the leader of the company’s operations in the United Kingdom, who tells Eurogamer that the first-person shooter from developer Bungie and publisher Activision is one of the games that will be heavily promoted for the Christmas season.

He states, “We're treating it, for all intents and purposes internally, as if it's a first-party release. We're wrapping our arms around it on all levels of the organisation. It's a special project and an important project and it has the power to launch Christmas. It's hugely important.”

The executive believes that more PlayStation 4 devices will be delivered to gamers because of Destiny in the coming weeks than before in the history of the platform.

He adds, “Yes, it's fantastic to have the exclusive content and the co-marketing, but it's more than that. It's a parallel track we've ridden together to get to this point. It's a lovely synergy that we're also going to have big milestones and set records next week.”

The fragrance controversy and the Xbox One

Before Destiny was officially launched, the team at Microsoft in charge of the Xbox One tried to deliver a bit of guerrilla marketing and show gamers that they could also get the Bungie title on other platforms than the PlayStation 4 and the PS3.

Sony and Activision moved fast to take down the site and eliminate any reference to the game itself.

It’s unlikely that Microsoft will get any sort of chance to associate the game, especially if it becomes successful in the long term, with the Xbox One.

PlayStation 4 might break more records

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 has managed to sell more than 10 million units all over the world, and Sony has recently announced that it plans to deliver a new Silver Wired Headset for the game and more colors for the DualShock 4 controller in order to make it more attractive.

At the same time, it’s likely that before the end of the year the Glacier White version of the platform, which is included only in the Destiny bundle, will be offered as a standalone unit or with other video games.
