European Vita owners might not get a chance to transfer their UMD games on the new device

Sony has declined to make a comment on whether or not it will deliver a PSP to PS Vita game transferring service to its European customers, after its North American branch confirmed that such a program would not be ran in the U.S.

The PlayStation Vita is set to appear later this month and, as you can imagine, Sony is trying its best to promote the device, as well as its features and games.

In Japan, Sony even ran a special UMD Passport program, which allowed owners of PSP games on UMD discs to transfer their games onto the PS Vita, for a small fee. In the U.S., as we heard yesterday, this feature won’t be available, meaning new Vita owners who want to play older PSP titles need to buy them from the PS Store.

In Europe, Sony has avoided the question, telling Eurogamer that it doesn’t have an official stance on the subject as of yet. However, the company mentioned that, after a decision is reached, potential Vita customers will be informed.

Considering that the Vita’s launch is in two weeks from now, it’s unlikely that European customers will benefit from the UMD Passport service.
